The Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities (DARIAH) aims to encourage and support digitally-oriented research and education in the field of the humanities. The Slovenian DARIAH-SI infrastructure is a member of DARIAH ERIC and organised as a consortium of partners: the Institute of Contemporary History (ICH) and the Scientific Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (ZRC SAZU). In practice, the Research Infrastructure cooperates with many institutions in the field of the humanities and social sciences and ensures that, in accordance with the DARIAH guidelines, its activities cover the needs of all major actors in the humanities and other relevant fields in Slovenia aimed at developing the national digital research infrastructure. It focuses on the development, maintenance, and management of the infrastructure that provides the basic support for research practices based on digital technology. In collaboration with scientific research communities, DARIAH brings together individual digital humanities activities across Europe, building on the established examples of good practice. This collaboration generates new scientific results, which DARIAH-SI strives to preserve and make accessible while facilitating their dissemination and re-use. Particular emphasis is placed on following the established practices and, above all, methodological and technical standards.

DARIAH-SI is aware of the need to link the research in the arts and humanities with modern technologies and technological advances, thus placing the arts and humanities at the heart of the technologically evolving knowledge society. DARIAH-SI pursues this mission by implementing the following strategic orientations:

  • organising and managing activities and services within the humanities research community;
  • effective integration of resources, tools, and services with broader support in the existing research activities into the further development of infrastructures at the national and global level;
  • effective promotion of digital methods in humanities research to achieve sustainable development of digital humanities;
  • ensuring comprehensive access to data and services in an open and freely accessible infrastructure;
  • building a trusted infrastructure that includes partners, data, services, and processes;
  • informing researchers and enhancing their digital literacy.
